Stewart Filmscreen
The Hollywood Screen in Your Home Cinema

A projector is only half the story. Even the best Sony BRAVIA Projector 9 or JVC DLA-NZ900 delivers a mediocre image when the light falls on a cheap white screen. The projection screen determines how that light is reflected, dispersed and perceived — it is the final and most critical link in the image chain.

That is why Integration At Home chooses Stewart Filmscreen: the only screen manufacturer in the world with two Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Achievement, and for more than 75 years the reference standard for Hollywood studios, professional post-production facilities and the most demanding home cinemas.

From Roy Stewart to Mary Stewart: Three Generations of Screen Science

In 1947, Roy C. Stewart founded a company in southern California that made custom projection screens for the explosively growing film industry. In an era of CinemaScope and VistaVision, Stewart was one of the first manufacturers capable of producing seamless screens in widescreen formats. What distinguished Stewart from the very beginning: the focus on materials science and optical coatings, where competitors treated screens as simple white surfaces.

That pioneering mentality led to two Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Achievement — the technical Oscars for innovations that fundamentally advance the film industry. No other screen manufacturer has matched this.

After the passing of Grant Stewart (third generation) in 2015, his wife Mary Stewart took the helm. Under her leadership: ISO 9001:2015 certification, production facilities in Torrance (California) and Ohio, offices in Denmark and Singapore. Every screen is handmade at a four-acre production site. Clients in more than 150 countries — including the biggest names in Hollywood.

Stewart is today the undisputed reference standard: from professional post-production studios where filmmakers review their films before release, to the most demanding home cinemas in the world.

Screen Materials: Why the Screen Determines Everything

A projection screen is not a passive surface. It is a precision optical instrument. Stewart has its own team of optical and chemical scientists who develop screen surfaces with a patented multi-layer coating system — up to thirteen optical layers, each responsible for a specific property. More than 25 different materials, each optimised for specific conditions.

StudioTek 130 G4 — The THX Reference

Industry standard for professional post-production studios since 1992. The fourth generation with THX certification. Gain 1.3 — thirty per cent brighter than matte white. Less sparkle than G3, exceptional HDR luminosity performance and white-field uniformity unmatched by any competing gain screen. Qualified for resolutions up to 16K+.

Ideal for blacked-out, dedicated home cinema rooms. In combination with Sony BRAVIA Projector 9 or JVC: the best you can achieve outside a professional film studio.

Available with MicroPerf X2 THX Ultra — more than 30,000 diamond-shaped perforations per square foot (0.5 mm), for acoustic transparency without moire. Speakers behind the screen, exactly as in a real cinema.

FireHawk G5 — Controlling Ambient Light

Not every home cinema is fully blacked out. FireHawk G5 offers ambient light rejection: gain 1.1 with 73% ambient light rejection. Superior black levels, shadow detail and colour saturation, even with windows or indirect lighting. Improved off-axis performance compared to G4. Available with MicroPerf X2 THX Ultra. Minimum throw ratio 1.6:1.

Phantom HALR: Black screen material, gain 1.0. Combats ambient light from multiple directions. Only black screen with acoustic perforation. Seamless up to 12 x 27 metres. Calibrates to Rec. 2020 and Rec. 709.

GrayMatte 70: Neutral grey matte, gain 0.7. Improves contrast with light-coloured walls or ceilings.

Screen Systems: From Fixed Frame to Motorised Masterpiece

Luxus — Motorised Flagship

Tab-tensioned, ceiling or wall. Slim housing with IMC 100 (Intelligent Motor Control): 12V trigger, dry contact, IR, RF, serial and IP for Control4 integration. Up to 209 inches in 16:9. Universal sliding bracket for perfect centring. Motor and roller assembly accessible for on-site maintenance.

Director’s Choice EVO — Ultimate Masking

Four independent motorised masking panels. Every aspect ratio storable — from 2.35:1 CinemaScope to 1.78:1 HDTV — with up to 24 presets via Control4. 30% larger image area than its predecessor. 6.5-inch Velux fascia. Up to 215 inches diagonal. The ultimate solution for switching between aspect ratios.

CineCurve — Curved Cinema Experience

Curved fixed-frame system with optional digitally controlled masking. Reproduces the cinematic envelopment of Hollywood curved Scope screens for anamorphic lenses. Stewart’s engineering team optimises the radius specifically for your projection lens and seating distance. The ultimate immersion.

WallScreen

Fixed frame in 2.5-inch (dedicated theatres) or 1.5-inch profile. EZ Mount for wall, floor-standing or aperture mounting. Velux finish.

Balon Edge

Minimalist fixed frame: just half an inch of black Velux edging for a “floating image” effect. Flush-mount brackets. Also available as a UST variant for ultra-short-throw projectors.

Cima Line

Stewart quality in a more accessible segment. Fixed frame (FF), below-ceiling (BC) and above-ceiling (AC). Neve (gain 1.1 matte white) and Tiburon G4 (gain 0.95 neutral grey).

Stewart Filmscreen and Control4

Integration via the IMC 100 (Intelligent Motor Control) in the Luxus and Cascade ranges: 12V trigger, dry contact, IR, RF, serial and IP. Control4 controls the screen seamlessly as part of a cinema scene.

For the Director’s Choice EVO, Control4 controls the four masking panels automatically via the CVM (Continuous Variable Masking): from 2.35:1 to 16:9 within seconds. OvrC for remote monitoring.

The Movie Night Scene

You press “Film” on your Basalte Sentido or Control4 remote. The Stewart Filmscreen Luxus with StudioTek 130 G4 descends silently from the ceiling housing via the 12V trigger of the Sony BRAVIA Projector 9. The projector switches on and activates lens memory 1 (CinemaScope 2.35:1). The Marantz AV receiver selects Dolby Atmos. The Focal speakers behind the MicroPerf X2 screen come online — sound that literally seems to come from the image. The REL Acoustics subwoofer adds deep bass. The Delta Light spots dim. The Somfy curtains close.

One touch. Pure cinema.
