Meljac
A light switch is the most touched object in your interior. Several times a day, your fingers touch the same surface — and yet this detail is overlooked in most home designs. Not with Meljac. This French manufacture transforms the simple light switch into an objet d’art: solid brass hand-finished, Limoges porcelain painted by artisans, tempered glass in any RAL colour. The same switches that adorn the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, the Four Seasons Hotel George V and the Mandarin Oriental can form the heart of your interior.
Integration At Home integrates Meljac switches and keypads into Control4 and KNX home automation systems, so that unrivalled craftsmanship and smart automation come together.
From Aveyron to Versailles: The Story of Meljac
The story begins in 1995, when engineer André Bousquet (1951–2019) decided to invest in a niche market that was virtually non-existent: luxury switches. Bousquet, originally from the village of Meljac in the Aveyron, had worked for years as an installer of electrical systems in Paris. His vision was clear: a switch should not only be functional, but also attractive, even sensual. In 1996, he opened his first showroom in Paris, in 1999 a workshop followed, and in 2010 his own factory in Villeneuve-le-Roi.
Recognition followed quickly. In 2012, the Origine France Garantie label. In 2015, as the first in its sector, the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label — the hallmark for living cultural heritage. Today, Meljac has approximately 90 employees, two showrooms, a subsidiary in the US and sixty authorised dealers worldwide.
The reference list reads like a who’s who of the most prestigious addresses in the world: the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum, Cartier and Chanel boutiques, the Four Seasons George V, the Mandarin Oriental, Hotel Le Meurice, La Réserve in Paris, the Royal Mansour in Marrakech, the Intercontinental in Geneva, the Danieli Hotel in Venice and the Cheval Blanc in Saint-Tropez.
Materials: Brass, Porcelain and Glass
Solid Brass
The core of every Meljac product — not plasticised material with a thin metal coating, but full-bodied brass that develops a natural patina over the years. Meljac also works with bronze, copper, aluminium and steel. Nearly thirty standard finishes: from polished nickel and chrome to various bronze patinas, copper, gunmetal and gold-toned bronze. Each finish is applied by hand in approximately fifteen production steps.
Limoges Porcelain
Authentic Limoges porcelain — enamelled or in biscuit finish, white or coloured, plain or with hand-painted motifs. Limoges porcelain has been synonymous for centuries with the very finest French ceramic craftsmanship. Meljac brings this tradition to the wall of your home. Porcelain of 3 mm with straight edges and invisible screws.
Pierrot Tempered Glass
Tempered glass of 4 mm thickness with bevelled edges. The transparency combined with radiant colours from the full RAL palette creates a light effect that no other material can match. Scratch-resistant and durable. The depth and colour brilliance offer a dimension that brass or porcelain cannot achieve.
Special Finishes
Warm finishes (gold-toned bronze, light bronze, médaille clair) with doré mechanisms. Cool finishes (polished nickel, brushed nickel, chrome, gunmetal) with chrome mechanisms. Granite finish for contemporary interiors. Blue mirror for bathrooms. Five shades of bronze patina from light to deep dark brown. Antique Brass that continues to patinate over time. Unlacquered finishes that live with their surroundings — every switch becomes a unique piece. Custom finishes on request to match existing hardware.
The Collections: From Art Deco to Contemporary Minimalism
Classique
The oldest and most iconic collection, inspired by the art de vivre of the nineteen thirties. The signature “water drop” toggle — a droplet-shaped toggle lever that has become the trademark of Meljac. Square, rectangular, round, triangular or octagonal plates, with bevelled edges and solid brass of 3 mm.
Cannelée
Designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Solid brass of 6.5 mm thickness with regular grooves that create a wave pattern. The manual patina reflects variably with the ambient light. Delivered for the luxury hotel Cheval Blanc in Saint-Tropez. Formats 80×80, 151×80, 222×80 and 45×175 mm.
Tournaire
Collaboration with jewellery creator Maison Tournaire, both EPV label holders. Five iconic motifs (Alchimie, Engrenages, Bas-relief, Construction, Catacombes) reproduced in bronze. Plates set with precious stones for a truly unique jewel creation. 3D modelling, lost-wax technique and artisanal surface treatment.
Ellipse
Contemporary design with rounded, elliptical toggles. Solid brass of 3 mm with bevelled edges. Contemporary appearance.
Damier
Sober lines with square push buttons. Straight edges. Geometric purity and minimalism.
Solaris
The newest brass collection. Clean, contemporary design. Slim lines and contrasting finishes, entirely produced in France.
Elliot
Contactless detection in solid brass of 3 mm. Responds without physical contact. Ideal for hygienic environments and ultramodern design.
More than Switches: The Complete Range
Meljac produces much more than light switches. The range includes sockets (high and low voltage), data connections (HDMI, USB, RJ45, TV), reading lamps (Tulipe and Roseau with individual LED, extendable to 381 mm), thermostat surrounds, alarm keypad coverings, doorbells, intercom system plates, lift panels and card reader surrounds for hotels.
The customisation possibilities are virtually unlimited: special dimensions, adapted models, engraving of words, symbols, pictograms or your own designs. Engraving techniques include laser, mechanical and resin-filled colouring in any RAL colour. Illuminated engraving (12 or 24 VDC) for a subtle light effect.
A memorable example: for a prince from the Middle East, Meljac created a butterfly-shaped switch set with labradorite gemstone — a request for his daughter. This bespoke masterpiece gave rise to the Prestige collection.
Home Automation Integration: Control4 and KNX
Meljac products are designed to work with all existing home automation systems. The company offers multiple integration solutions: traditional wired (switch to distribution panel or snap-fit module), Cresnet integration with proprietary control card, or an electronic home automation card that replaces the wiring inside the switch.
At Integration At Home, we combine Meljac switches with Control4 and KNX systems. The push buttons function as inputs: a short press switches the lighting, a long press dims, a double press activates a scene. Bidirectional communication via the KNX backbone.
Meljac in the IAHome Control Concept
In combination with Basalte touch panels, Gira systems and Lithoss switches, we create a control concept in which each type of switch fulfils its own role:
Meljac — for the representative spaces where aesthetics and tangibility are paramount (entrance hall, living room, master bedroom).
Basalte — for digital touch control and scene management.
Lithoss — for the functional zones where Belgian craftsmanship and material choice set the tone.
Control4 or KNX seamlessly connects all brands in automated scenes.
Scenes That Bring Your Interior to Life
Welcome home: A Meljac Classique toggle in bronze médaille clair in the entrance hall — harmonising with the door handle and Integratech fixtures. The Delta Light spots dim to 70%, the Casambi lighting in the hallway switches on, the Gira curtains open, climate to comfort mode, Bluesound starts soft background music.
Master bedroom: A Meljac Cannelée keypad in polished nickel with four push buttons and illuminated engraving. “Read” (reading lamp on, ceiling light off). “Night” (everything off, Hikvision night mode, Gira curtains closed). “Morning” (curtains open, lighting 30%, coffee machine starts). A fourth button for your personal favourite scene.
Home cinema: Deliberately minimalist — a single Meljac Ellipse push button in gunmetal, unobtrusively beside the door. One touch activates the complete cinema scene: JVC projector, Lumene screen, McIntosh or Marantz amplification, Focal speakers, Integratech cinema lighting, Delta Light off, curtains closed.
