Gira
Where German Craftsmanship Meets KNX Intelligence

There are switches that turn lights on and off. And there is Gira, which has transformed the switch from a functional component into the intelligent nerve ending of a fully automated building. Since 1905, this German family business has been developing and manufacturing switching programmes, smart home systems and door communication from Radevormwald that set the worldwide standard for design, quality and innovation in building technology.

At Integration At Home, Gira is the backbone of our KNX installations. Every Gira switch, sensor and server is professionally integrated into a complete concept that seamlessly connects lighting, blinds, climate, security and entertainment. One uniform design, one intelligent control system, one partner that guides the entire process.

The Story of Gira – 120 Years of Innovation from the Bergisches Land

The name Gira is not an abstract brand name but a contraction of the family name Giersiepen and the location Radevormwald, a small town in the Bergisches Land in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1905, brothers Gustav and Richard Giersiepen established a manufactory there for the production of light switches. Their principles were clear from the very beginning: continuous innovation, uncompromising quality and good design.

Those principles led to a breakthrough as early as 1926: socket number 265 with a patented spring mechanism that set the standard for an entire generation of electrical installation materials. The collaboration with leading designers such as Odo Klose produced international design classics, including the renowned S-Komfort switch series.

From the early nineties onwards, Gira positioned itself as one of the pioneers of digital building networking. As a partner of the KNX consortium, the company actively contributed to the development of the global standard for smart building technology. That pioneering role translated in 2020 into the Red Dot Award for Best Smart Building Brand — a recognition that Gira repeated in 2021.

Today, Gira has more than 1,250 employees, representatives in over 40 countries and an ultra-modern production, development and logistics centre of 30,000 square metres in Radevormwald. Quality Made in Germany is not a slogan at Gira — it is a daily reality.

Gira System 55 – The Modular Masterpiece

The core of the Gira universe is System 55, a modular platform that has been continuously expanded and refined since the sixties. The principle is as simple as it is ingenious: all Gira inserts and cover frames share the same uniform dimensions of 55 millimetres. This means you can combine any function — from a simple socket to an advanced KNX push button sensor — with any Gira design programme. More than 300 functions are available within System 55, and all design lines are mutually compatible.

Gira E2 – Timeless Minimalism

The Gira E2 is the architect’s design programme par excellence. Minimalist, timeless and suitable for a broad range of interior styles. Available in shatter-proof, UV-resistant thermoplastic in multiple colours plus a high-quality stainless steel variant. E2 can be flush-mounted with only 3.4 millimetres of protrusion above the wall surface, for seamless integration into clean-lined architecture.

Gira Esprit – Natural Materials

The Esprit design line combines a simplistic yet refined character with an exceptional choice of materials and colours. More than 20 colour variants, including aluminium, chrome, stainless steel, bronze (PVD), and sustainable options in linoleum plywood. Glass frames in black, white, mint or umber add a distinctive dimension. The new Esprit frames on an aluminium base are available in six coatings.

Gira E3 – Soft Contours

The E3 offers rounded contours and a warmer character than the more angular E2. With nine colour variants, E3 provides an elegant option for those who prefer soft lines over sharp edges.

Gira E1

Winner of the Red Dot Award 2025 for Product Design. Minimalist design with gently rounded contours, clean lines and balanced proportions. Available in five colours.

Gira Event

The Event design line adds an expressive colour accent to your switches. Ideal for interiors where the switch is a deliberate style element.

Gira F100 and Standard 55

The F100 combines elegant design with robust materials. Standard 55 offers a budget-friendly yet high-quality solution. Both integrate seamlessly into System 55 with more than 200 functions.

Gira TX_44 – Outdoor

Waterproof, dust- and oil-resistant: the TX_44 is designed for outdoor applications, terraces and utility rooms where robustness is essential.

Gira KNX – The Backbone of the Intelligent Building

KNX is the global standard for smart building technology, supported by more than 500 manufacturers including Sony, Bosch, Siemens and Gira. The system connects lighting, blinds, heating, ventilation, security and entertainment via a dedicated bus cable that is installed alongside the power cables. The intelligence resides in the push buttons, sensors and central control units that replace traditional switches.

Gira is one of the most complete providers within the KNX ecosystem and supplies all the components needed for a fully automated home: from switching actuators and dimming actuators to DALI gateways, weather stations, motion detectors and IP routers.

KNX Secure

Gira implements KNX Secure on two levels. KNX IP Secure encrypts all data transmission over the IP network. KNX Data Secure encrypts communication on the KNX bus itself. This dual encryption protects your smart home against unauthorised access and manipulation — a crucial advantage in an increasingly connected world.

Gira Control Components – From Push Button to Intelligent Sensor

Pushbutton Sensor 4 (Tastsensor 4)

The Gira Pushbutton Sensor 4 is Gira’s flagship KNX control device and has been awarded the Red Dot Best of the Best (2020), the iF Design Award and the Iconic Award. Available as a 95 mm variant with identical dimensions to the Esprit design line, and as a System 55 variant that combines with all System 55 design lines.

Up to eight individually assignable functions per sensor: switching, dimming, blinds, scenes, temperature control and more. Integrated LEDs in up to eight colours serve as status indicators. Optional laser inscription or personal inscription label for intuitive operation. Integrated temperature and humidity sensor. Material options: glass black, glass white, aluminium, stainless steel.

Gira Button for Gira One & KNX

A seemingly simple switch that can do much more: control light colour, brightness and colour temperature, measure room temperature. Available in single and double button versions with two or four assignable functions respectively. Compatible with System 55 and F100 design lines. Manufactured in shatter-proof plastic and robust stainless steel.

Pushbutton Sensor 3

Multifunctional and flexible: if functions change, the button assignment can simply be reprogrammed. Ideal for spaces where the control scheme evolves with use.
